FLORIDABLNCA, Pampanga – A security aide of mayoralty candidate Atty. Anselmo “Sato” Carlos was seriously injured when shot point blank by an unidentified gunman along the corner of San Jose and Sundiam streets in Barangay Poblacion here Wednesday night.

Superintendent Rodney Baloyo, town's police chief, identified the victim as Bonifacio Punzalan Muldong, 59, of Capas, Tarlac and stay-in security driver of Carlos, one of the rivals of incumbent town Mayor Eddie Guerrero.

Baloyo said the victim was shot three times in the chest and stomach and was last listed in critical condition at the Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital (PMSH) in Lubao town.

“The victim is still under observation at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of PMSH,” Baloyo said.

In his report to Senior Supt. R’Win Pagkalinawan, Pampanga Provincial Police director, Baloyo said the victim was standing in front of a vehicle, a few meters away from where Carlos was holding a political rally, when a lone gunman approached and shot him.

The suspect, Baloyo said, quickly fled on foot and was able to escape. He said several angles are being pursued by investigators, including land dispute and personal grudge.

Police sources said the victim is also a caretaker of a piece of property in Porac town which is the subject of a dispute by contesting parties.

Baloyo said the incident has nothing to do with politics as the main subject and target of the suspect is not Carlos but his security aide.

He said no spent shells have been recovered at the crime scene, an indication that a revolver could have been used in the attack.
With this, Baloyo ordered an in-depth investigation to determine the identity of the suspect and file criminal complaints against him.
