CANDABA Mayor Rene Maglanque announced that more than P100 million in government funds were utilized to improve roads and municipal buildings as part of his strategy to improve the local economy and attract more investors.

Maglangue said P5 million was released by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the efforts of Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid for the major rehabilitation of the façade of the municipal hall.

He added that Lapid also worked for the release another P5 million in 2015 for the improvement of the back portion of the municipal hall, adding that the big chunk of the funds released by the DPWH were used to improve road networks, including the highway connecting the Poblacion area to the so-called Kapampangan region composed of eight villages.

Poblacion is host to the municipal hall, public market and most of the 903 registered businesses of the town.

“We want to limit the effects of floods in our town by improving the infrastructures and road starting in the Poblacion area,” said Maglanque.

“We want to attract new investors, especially the prominent ones,” he added.

Maglanque disclosed that the Lucio Co-led grocery chain Puregold Price Club Inc. and the Sy-owned Savemore Market are beginning to express interest in putting up their respective branches in the town. (Joey Pavia, contributor)
