How to flirt without being creepy

FLIRTING is a common act done among teenagers whether men or women. But many "flirting strategies" are often sinister, causing fear or unease to the other person.

In a man's perspective, many would say that the first step in flirting with a lady is by making an eye contact. Personally, I think that is the second. Here are steps on how to flirt with a woman without being creepy and flippant.

Step 1: Look at her hands and check if she is wearing a ring. If she is, move on. Captain, that ship has sailed! But do not sweat it; more ships will come.

Step 2: Now is the time to make an eye contact. Do not be a creep. Take a glance and smile. Once you catch her attention, look into her eyes for the second time, and light up that face. Delight!

Step 3: Take the first move. Approach her naturally. Do not walk like a gangster or a zombie. Introduce yourself and open up a conversation. "Hi there!" That's a good start.

Step 4. Ask her questions. "How often do you come here?" If she starts talking, offer some compliments. "You look good in that dress." Do not ever say, "I like your ass." If things work, offer some place to quench thirst -- a strategy to keep the conversation going. "Would you want some refreshments?" Then move ahead!

Step 5. As the tête-à-tête is about to end, test your fate. You may not see her for the second time. Get your phone out and ask her for her mobile number. Worse luck, if she says, "No." But still, stay courteous before you exit the stage. "I understand. It was nice meeting you, anyway."

Then offer a business card. Leave her with a beaming smile.

Flirting is never easy. Some may refuse to take it. Always remember though -- it is a skill learnt through practice and interaction with different kinds of people. Why don't you start practicing now? (Jake Miro, contributor)
