Phil Younghusband: Schrock, Cagara big loss for Azkals-A A +A
Friday, August 8, 2014
STRIKER Phil Younghusband said the resignation of Stephan Schrock and Dennis Cagara is a big blow for the national team, Philippine Azkals.
In an interview with Younghusband at the "Pangarap Kong World Cup" launch on Thursday, he said that it is unfortunate that two senior players of the national football team have decided to hang their international boots.
He was also not aware of Schrock and Cagara's reasons for resigning.
"I don't know much about the situation because the last time we played it was against Palestine, it was months ago and the issue just come up now. Schrocky and Dennis are in Europe right now," he said.
"I'm not really sure of the exact story. All I say is I love playing with Stephan and I love playing with Dennis. They are my friends and my teammates. I enjoy playing with them and they help me and everyone."
German-Filipino midfielder Schrock, who plays for second division Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Furth, announced earlier this week that he was "resigning" from the Azkals and will not play for the Philippines as long as Thomas Dooley is the coach.
Schrock posted on his official Facebook account: "It's not true that I don't wanna play for Philippines anymore. It was always a pleasure for me and i feel still honored to have the possibility to play for my country, the country where my heart belongs. As long as coach Dooley will lead the team I won't wear the jersey of Azkals again."
The Danish-Filipino left back Cagara, on his part, followed Schrock's lead and announced his resignation on Twitter.
Dooley is also the reason why I won't play for the Azkals for the moment.

According to Younghusband, both Schrock and Cagara are a big loss for the country as they helped the national team progress in numerous competitions and he is hoping to see them play again for the Azkals.
"They are two big players for us, it's a big loss. It's a big loss for me, it's a big loss for the team, a big loss for the Philippines. They're great players for the team and they've done so much for Philippine football. I hope and pray that they will play again with the Azkals."
Younghusband said that he respects Dooley's decision for the national team.
"The coach will always make decisions that fans won't be happy with, the players won't be happy with, assistant coaches won't be happy with, but that's part of his job, he has to take the stick and the criticisms.
"Me and coach Dooley get along really well. I really like Thomas. I like coach and the players are my friend. I like coach and the players are my friends. I hope the issue can be resolved." (Sunnex)
