CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City of San Fernando Water District (CSFWD) hosted discussions over the weekend on its environmental initiatives on water conservation and environmental protection at the Benigno Aquino Hall over the weekend.

CSFWD general manager Jorge Gumba said that the initiative is part of the water utility's World Water Day commemoration. The event aims to tap sectoral support in water conservation initiatives. The discussions involved local barangay officials in the capital city.

Key speakers included Mario Sandoval and City of San Fernando councilor BJ Lagman. The talks revolved around environmental protection and water conservation.

Sandoval said that rapid urbanization, climate change, and growing food needs put ever-increasing pressure on freshwater resources. Celebration of World Water Day will also serve to highlight successful examples of water cooperation and explore key issues, including water diplomacy, transboundary water management, and financial cooperation.

Gumba stressed that barangay officials play a crucial role in mobilizing grassroots support for environmental programs. Village officials, he said can help inform their communities of current programs and even include such into their barangay management plans.

Gumba added that the water utility is an active partner in water conservation. He added that they are urging their concessionaires to conserve water especially during the summer months. He added that the issue of water conservation is an issue that should be addressed by water utilities and government but also of the whole community.

CSFWD Board of Directors chairman Tonette Orejas told Sun.Star Pampanga that the event is the water utility’s contribution towards water conservation initiatives.
