PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III will lead the graduation rites of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Lakandula Class 2015 at Camp Mariano N. Castaneda in Silang, Cavite on Thursday.

Lakandula, which means "Lahing Kayumanggi na Handang Ialay sa Bayan ang Dugo at Lakas" (Filipinos ready to serve and die for their country) is composed of 247 cadets, including 15 females.

Cadet 1st Class Dennis Yuson is the class valedictorian of the batch.

The rest of the top 10 are Cadet 1st Class Rod Kevin Talplacido (2nd), Marlon Landong (3rd), Raymund Caguioa (4th), Michael Giner (5th), Nathaniel Faulve (6th), Kenneth Lumbre (7th), Roel Bata (8th), Mark Jonathan Avillano (9th) and Julie Anne Aguilar (10th).

Aguilar, the only female in the graduating batch, is a daughter of Police Senior Superintendent Geronimo Aguilar who was valedictorian of PNPA Class 1987 and is currently assigned at the PNP finance service.

Despite the deaths of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) elite commandos in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25, at least 25 percent of the graduating batch wants to join the elite counterterrorism unit of the PNP.

Seven of the slain police commandos were graduates of PNPA.

Of the 247 graduates, 226 wants to join the PNP, 11 will join the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and 10 will join the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). (Sunnex)
