Earlier, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) deployed 900 newly hired police men, particularly in the areas identified as crime-prone such as those under the jurisdiction of Police Community Precinct (PCP) 10 in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City; PCP 4 in Barangay Tugatog, Malabon City; PCP 4 in North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas City; PCP 3 in Marulas, Valenzuela City; PCP 2 in Sto. Niño, Marikina City; PCP 4 in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; PCP 2 in Plainview, Mandaluyong City; PCP 1 in Greenhills, San Juan City; PCP 6 in Barangay Sto. Niño, Pasay City; PCP 6 in Ayala, Makati City; PCP 1 in Baclaran, Parañaque City, PCP 3 in Barangay Pamplona, Las Piñas City; PCP 2 in Alabang, Muntinlupa City and PCP 4 in Signal Village, Taguig City.

On Thursday, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Benjamin Magalong said he would order the deployment of 100 CIDG personnel to assist the NCRPO in resolving the increasing cases of criminality particularly the cases of motorcycle-riding criminals, illegal drugs and theft.

"Bumuo kami ng mga grupo na magpapaigting sa operasyon laban sa mga specific targets, partikular sa mga gun-for-hire at mga robbery group na gumagamit ng motorsiklo," he said.

Magalong also made sure that the normal operation of the CIDG such as the investigation on other crimes and high-profile cases will not sacrifice in such change.

Meanwhile, PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management head Manuel Gaerlan said a total of 100 police officers doing administrative work in the national headquarters in Camp Crame will augment the men of the NCRPO to boost the police visibility in the Metro Manila streets.

Gaerlan said it would be the NCRPO's call whether or not it will deploy the augmentation forces.

Although they have doubled their effort, the PNP have not yet achieved the ideal police to people ratio of 1:500.

In the Metro Manila alone, there were at least 18,000 police personnel assigned to look over the peace and order and security in an area with estimated 12 to 15 million population.

The PNP will recruit more than 7,000 non-uniformed personnel who will replace the uniformed men doing administrative work in Camp Crame, the police official said. (Sunnex)
