THE Abu Sayyaf Group is "massively injured" after the arrest of its finance officer, Khair Mundos, a military official said Monday.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala said that aside from receiving funds from Jemaah Islamiyah and al-Qaeda to finance the activities of the Philippine-based Abu Sayyaf group, Mundos is also the one conducting "bomb making training" to members of the terrorist group.

"Tumaas ang kanyang posisyon sa grupo kasi nagkaroon ng kumpiyansa sa kanya ang Abu Sayyaf at siya na ang nagli-lead ng some of the bombings at trainings ng kanilang mga terrorist acts," he said.

Zagala said Mundos' arrest will affect the operation of the group.

He said they are also investigating possible involvement of the relatives and other individuals visiting Mundos in his hideout at night.

"Lahat ng anggulo na pwede nating makita lalo na 'yung mga kamag-anak nya at kaibigan nya na kumupkop sakanya ay kailangan nating malaman at kung bakit siya kinupkop, tuloy tuloy ang imbestigasyon at operasyon," he said.

Authorities arrested Mundos at his brother's house in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City on June 11. He is facing multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder and multiple attempted murder cases.
