THE National Government is now on the second phase of the recovery and rehabilitation of the earthquake-hit areas in the province of Bohol, a government official said Friday.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II together with Budget Secretary Florendo Abad personally handed a check worth P2,389,494,190 to Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto for the continuous recovery and rehabilitation projects of the said province.

Roxas said the allocated funds were part of the effort of President Benigno Aquino III and the DBM to reach out to the quake-affected population in Bohol and Cebu.

"Nakita ni Presidente na mabilis ang recovery mula nung lindol. Malaki ang pagkilala niya sa mga opisyal ng Bohol," Abad said.

Roxas said the first phase, which was given immediately after the occurrence of the quake, includes physical survival and the building of temporary shelters for the affected individuals.

For his part, Chatto said he will make sure that the funds allocated by the National Government will be used accordingly and with transparency.

The P2,389,494,190 will be given to the 47 towns in Bohol for the repair and building of it infrastructures damaged and destroyed by the killer earthquake.

On October 2013, a magnitude-7.2 earthquake struck the Visayas region. The strong quake damaged government buildings and destroyed heritage sites in Bohol and Cebu.

Roxas said the National Government will continue to support the province until it fully recovers from the disaster. (Sunnex)
