THE two lawyers of detained real estate developer Delfin Lee is now facing charges of obstruction of justice after they insisted that the arrest of Globe Asiatique's CEO was invalid.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Benjamin Magalong said he personally filed the charges against lawyers William Rivera and Gilbert Requiso before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
Magalong said the two lawyers allegedly brought confusion to the public over Lee's controversial arrest as a "delaying tactics."
Lee, who is currently detained at the Pampanga provincial jail, is facing syndicated estafa charges before a local court for alleged anomalous housing projects in Pampanga worth P6.6 billion.
After being a fugitive for a year, Lee was arrested by the PNP Task Force Tugis on March 6 in a hotel in Manila.
Rivera and Requiso questioned the validity of the arrest, saying that Lee's name was already deleted from the wanted persons list and that his arrest warrant was quashed by the Court of Appeals.
Lee's lawyers even showed documents as proof that Magalong approved the deletion of the businessman's name on the list.
The said controversial arrest also caused the relief of the Task Force Tugis head Senior Superintendent Conrado Capa. (Sunnex)
