NPA admits abducting DENR employees-A A +A
Monday, June 2, 2014
THE New People's Army (NPA) on Monday admitted that they abducted six employees of the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) in Maco town in Compostela Valley last Friday, a military official said.
In a telephone interview, Captain Alberto Caber, spokesperson of the Army's eastern Mindanao command, said Daniel Ibarra, the NPA's spokesperson in Compostela Valley, claimed responsibility for the abduction of six contractual surveyors of the DENR.
Caber raised the possibility that the victims were mistaken for police and military personnel since they were carrying a sky-eye drone, which was used for the inspection of the government's National Greening Program in the area. A drone is an unmanned aircraft guided by a remote control.
Caber said the six DENR personnel remain in the custody of their abductors since they were snatched by the rebels in Barangay New Leyte in Maco town Friday afternoon. (Sunnex)
