THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) officially resumed deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Thailand after lifting the partial deployment ban it earlier imposed.

Based on POEA Governing Board Resolution 2014-05, the POEA said it is already allowing deployment in all of Thailand with the continuous improvement of the security situation there.

"Therefore, the POEA resolves to lift the deployment ban in the aforementioned areas in Thailand and to resume the processing and deployment of all Filipino workers," said the POEA.

It said the deployment will be open to both vacationing and newly-hired OFWs.

The decision comes after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) lowered the Crisis Alert Level from 2 (Restriction Phase) to 1 (Precautionary Phase) last March 21.

Back in January, the POEA imposed a partial deployment ban to newly hired OFWs, which prohibits them from being deployed to Bangkok, Nonthaburi Province, Lad Lun Kaew District (Pathum Thani Province), and Bang Phli District (Samut Prakan Province).

It came after Alert Level 2 was raised in Thailand by the DFA in view of the 60-day State of Emergency declared in the said areas by the Thai government.

POEA records show that of the 6,021 OFWs deployed to Thailand last year, only 252 are new hires, while 5,769 are re-hires. (HDT/Sunnex)
