INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas remains to be the frontrunner of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) for the 2016 presidential elections, a partymate said Tuesday.

"Sa LP, ang magdadala ng bandera ay si Secretary Roxas," Transportation Communications Secretary and LP Secretary General Joseph Emilio Abaya told reporters.

Abaya also denied rumors that he is being considered as LP's standard bearer in the 2016 polls.

"I don't know where that's coming from," he said.

Abaya said the LP hopes the Filipino people will realize how the ruling party, where President Benigno Aquino III is chairman, remained committed to the "straight path" or daang matuwid, Aquino's campaign promise.

"Hopefully, ang tingin ng taong bayan na ang LP ay naging bahagi ng pagpapatupad at ipagpapatuloy ang daang matuwid," he said.

The LP official, however, clarified that all party members are yet to arrive at a consensus on whether Roxas should be the standard bearer.

"We have our own processes. Kung may consensus na ba, may proseso pa kami na i-u-undertake. That has not yet been done," Abaya said.

Abaya said LP members who occupy government posts would rather focus on their work before talking about the 2016 elections.

Reports say Senator Fracis Escudero could be the runningmate of Roxas, who will likely be running against Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. (Sunnex)
