SENATOR Miriam Defensor Santiago defended President Benigno Aquino III over the statement of Senator Sergio "Serge" Osmeña III that the Chief Executive is an "awful manager."
"I know that it's very easy to criticize but it's very difficult because every President must act within his own peculiar set of circumstances," Santiago said.
Earlier, Osmeña criticized Aquino for sticking to his appointed Cabinet members despite their low performance in the government agencies. He particularly cited Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla who has kept his job despite the power woes of the country.
Petilla had said that Osmeña, a close ally of the president, is entitled to his own opinion.
Osmeña also warned that Aquino could lose his endorsement power in the 2016 polls if he continues to be the "hardheaded" leader that he is.
Reports say Aquino, the chairman of the ruling Liberal Party (LP), would likely endorse his close friend Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II as the LP standard-bearer in the 2016 national elections.
"I want him to do well. I want him to do better but sometimes, he's so hard-headed. What can we do?" he had said.
Santiago said she understands the Chief Executive because he needs to "own up to decisions and assume responsibility no matter how fearful the outcome might be." (Sunnex)
