SENATOR Cynthia Villar on Tuesday said it was "too early" to tell who among the members of the Nacionalista Party (NP) will be its standard bearer in the 2016 presidential elections.

"It's too far. Marami pang mangyayari mula ngayon hanggang 2016," Villar said.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, a member of the NP, had earlier expressed his intention to run for president.

"Sabi niya, gusto niya lang...Ino-offer niya ang sarili niya. Titignan niya by the end of the year kung magugustuhan siya," Villar said of Cayetano.

Reports said Senator Antonio Trillanes IV will be the likely runningmate of Cayetano.

Over the weekend, Trillanes said the NP is also looking into fielding Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and NP president Manny Villar, husband of Senator Villar, in the presidential and vice presidential race.

Villar ran and lost in the 2010 presidential elections against incumbent President Benigno Aquino III.

Senator Villar said it was unlikely for her husband to run again for president come 2016.

"Ay hindi nakibo si Manny. Kayo naman, ginagawan niyo ng storya. Nagtatrabaho lang 'yung tao. It's too early ngayon. He's working," Villar told reporters. (Sunnex)
