SENATE President Franklin Drilon on Tuesday said the chamber will start discussions on the proposed Charter change (Cha-cha) once the House of Representatives finally approves its own version of the proposal.

'Yan po ang usapan namin ni Speaker (Feliciano) Belmonte," Drilon said in a radio interview.

Plenary debates on the Cha-cha resolution filed by Belmonte are scheduled on May after the Lenten break, according to Majority Leader Neptali "Boyet" Gonzales II.

The resolution approved by the House committee on constitutional amendments seeks to amend certain economic provisions of the Constitution by adding the phrase "unless otherwise provided by law."

Members of the Makabayan bloc had protested the committee's approval saying the resolution was fast-tracked.

Drilon said the Senate preferred to prioritize the freedom of information (FOI) bill, which was approved on third and final reading Monday this week. The House version of the FOI measure meanwhile is still pending in the committee level.

Leaders of both chambers have committed to meet each month on their legislative priorities. (Sunnex)
