Lawyer: Ombud grilled 2 potential PDAF scam witnesses-A A +A
Friday, February 28, 2014
TWO individuals who can further prove corruption of the lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) were personally grilled by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, a lawyer said.
Levito Baligod said the new witnesses will complete the "chain of evidence" detailing the conspiracy among Janet Napoles, some legislators and the implementing agencies, which tapped the businesswoman's dubious non-government organizations (NGOs) as recipients of PDAF.
"These two will give us very crucial information that will prove that the head of the implementing agency all the way to the secretary of that department were involved that's why it (PDAF scam) happened," he said in an interview on Wednesday night.
Funds that were allegedly misused range from P75 million to P1.4 billion, said Baligod, who is also the counsel for some whistleblowers led by Napoles’ ex-personal assistant Benhur Luy.
"I cannot divulge their identities now because their statements are very critical, that's why I opted to have them interviewed by no less than the Ombudsman. I did not present them to the DOJ (Department of Justice) because it might only create so much noise," he said.
Malacañang earlier urged other prospective witnesses to come forward and tell all they know to the DOJ, which will determine if they are fit to be admitted into the Witness Protection Program (WPP).
Recently, socialite Ruby Tuason and former Technology Resource Center (TRC) chief Dennis Cunanan have been given temporary security by the DOJ in exchange for pinning down Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada, their co-respondents in the plunder charges pending before the Office of the Ombudsman.
The senators denied the allegations. (Sunnex)
