Go at your own risk, Red Cross tells Nazarene devotees

THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Wednesday advised the public to bring identification (ID) cards if they plan to join the mammoth crowd during the procession of the Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo, Manila on Thursday.

The bringing of ID cards is among the safety tips the PRC has released for those who will be taking part in Thursday's festivity.

The ID cards should contain medical information of its holders and emergency contact numbers, it said.


PRC also advised devotees who will attend the grand procession to wear proper clothing as well as to bring candies and crackers to combat hunger, as well as bottled water to prevent heat exhaustion.

It also noted that those who will join the procession must be physically prepared and that children, elderly, pregnant and persons who are sick are advised to just stay at home.

A total of 15 first aid stations shall be set-up by the PRC in pre-identified strategic areas where the procession will pass through.

The posts are located in the right side of Quirino Grand Stand near the Philippine Postal Savings Bank; Roxas Boulevard corner T.M. Kalaw near the Tamaraw statue; P. Burgos corner Taft Avenue; Round Table, Manila; Intramuros River Ferry Terminal; Quintin Paredes corner Escolta in front of Savory Restaurant; PhilTrust Bank – Lacson Plaza, Sta. Cruz; Legarda corner Arlegui; Gonzalo Puyat corner Quezon Avenue; Bilibid Viejo St. in front of San Sebastian Church; and Quiapo Church near 7-11 store, City State Building.

The PRC said it shall also deploy 285 volunteers and staff from the Red Cross Metro Manila chapters to man the stations.

The PRC will also mobilize 24 rescue vehicles for immediate transport comprised of 19 ambulances, four boats on the Pasig River to assist the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG),one fire truck, and one rescue truck. (Sunnex)
