LTFRB to decide on Don Mariano bus incident by January 16-A A +A
Tuesday, January 7, 2014
THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Tuesday that it will release its decision on the suspension of 78 bus units of Don Mariano Transit Corporation on or before January 16.
LTFRB executive director Roberto Cabrera said in a phone interview that the case was already submitted for resolution on Tuesday morning.
Cabrera said the agency disregarded the request of the Don Mariano Transit management to lift the suspension of its bus fleet, which earlier received a 30-day suspension notice after one of its buses fell off the elevated highway in Taguig City last December 15. The fatal accident claimed 18 lives, all passengers of the ill-fated bus.
Cabrera said that the decision can be either to prolong the suspension of 78 buses or to totally cancel the bus company's franchise.
In a hearing attended by the family of the victims on January 7, the LTFRB assured them that justice will be served and that it will not let anyone influence its decision.
"Hindi namin hahayaan ang sinumang malaking tao na diktahan ang magiging decision ng board. We will base our decision on law and facts," Cabrera said. (Sunnex)
