Overseas-based, homegrown face-off in Mutya 2014

AFTER several months of screening from overseas Filipino communities and regional search nationwide, Mutya ng Pilipinas announces the 30 official candidates this year.

They are: Deborah Humpfner (Germany), Mary Ryelle Espiritu (Arizona, USA), Beatrice Andrada (Canada), Christina De Vries (Toronto), Kim Fyfe (Australia), Pauline Edralin (Melbourne), Britt Rekkedal (Scandinavia), Patrizia Bosco (Milan), Dorina Doerr (Heidelberg), Eva Psychee Patalinjug (Cebu City), Aiko Rachelle Caraan (Talisay, Cebu), Aivy Mae Castro (Daanbantayan), Anna Margarette Bascon (Lapu-lapu City), Candy Cumayas (Bohol), Froilene Villanueva (Iloilo City), Rosalie Arcenio (Aklan), Renalyn Arinque (Capiz), Maria Leslie Angelina Ghan (Cagayan De Oro), Jovilyn Gavan (Davao), Kellie Dione Camoro (Zamboanga), Shanice Aquino (Central Luzon), Angela Aninang (Mabalacat), Yesley Cabanos (Caloocan City), Cheryl Chen (Tarlac), Nickah Dela Cruz (Bulacan), Cristine Racel (Olongapo City), Ma. Jackielyn Dulay (Nueva Ecija), Glennifer Perido (Cordilleras), Alexandra Faith Garcia (Zambales) and Annalita Vizcarra (Murcia, Negros Occidental).


From other national beauty pageants, Mutya carried on the tradition of a healthy mix of overseas-based and homegrown Filipinas. This year's 46th edition, once again looks like a face-off that pits overseas-based Filipinas in one corner against homegrown lasses on the other.

Looking back at the history of Mutya, revealed that overseas and homegrown aspirants have equal chances of taking home the crown.

After a series of corporate visits, photos shoots and other pre-pageant activities, the candidates will be presented to media on July 23 at Hotel H2O in Manila. They will fly to Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan for the Swimsuit Competition (July 28-31) and Nueva Ecija for the Long Gown Competition (August 1-3).

The grand coronation night on August 8 will have the theme, “Mutya ng Pilipinas, Where Beauty Begins…” The top 3 most coveted titles are Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific, Mutya ng Pilipinas - Overseas Communities and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas Board together with its major accredited partners Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corporation, Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa, Hotel H20, Solaire Resort and Casino, Focus Lamps and Robinsons Land is committed to promote Tourism, Adventure, Socio-Civic related promotions and of course Beauty Pageantry in the Philippines and overseas. MP has appointed Reyes Tacandong & Co. as official Auditors; and Informatics as the official Tabulators, all to ensure the adoption of proper procedures, therefore preserving the integrity of Mutya’s judging system being the hallmark of many years in pageantry.
