BACK-TO-BACK win for the Philippines! Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez, crowned her successor and fellow Cebuana Angeli Dione Gomez as Miss Tourism International 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last year. Their achievement marked the Philippines the record for the country with the most number of major titles in this pageant.
Gomez is the third Filipina to win the Miss Tourism International crown.
The first ever beauty titlist was Maria Esperanza Manzano in 2000.
Mutya ng Pilipinas is the franchisee of one of the most dominant beauty pageants worldwide, the Miss Tourism International pageant which was conceived in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia in 1994.
Another Mutya delegate who captured the world is Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International 2013 titlist Koreen Medina who competed at Miss Intercontinental pageant. She was hailed as "Miss Asia & Oceania" during the coronation night held in Germany, which is participated by 59 countries.
Meanwhile, beauty bets from Overseas Filipino Communities (Australia, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and various parts of United States of America) and regional representatives from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and from the National Capital Region are set to gather for the 46th edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas. The grand coronation night will be on August 8 at Resorts World Manila (to be televised on GMA 7), a series of pre-pageant activities will be staged in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (Swimsuit Competition), Nueva Ecija (Regional Costume Competition), Pangasinan, Iloilo City and Boracay.
Will another Cebuana make it to the most coveted titles Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International? Eva Patalingjug (Mutya ng Cebu) in her interview spoke, "This pageant will be my platform in pushing for my advocacies in life especially promoting tourism in our country despite all the calamities that happened."
Through the years, beauty queens have become a source of inspiration, respect and self-worth for the Filipino people. Perhaps the distinction of Mutya ng Pilipinas winners is to promote tourism especially among the overseas Filipino communities, which is the prime motivation of the organization apart from encouraging greater participation among all the communities worldwide. It is being supported by its major accredited partners Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corporation, Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa, Hotel H20, Solaire Resort & Casino, Focus Lamps and Robinsons Land. Mutya ng Pilipinas has appointed Reyes Tacandong & Co. as official auditors; and Informatics as the official tabulators, all to ensure the adoption of proper procedures, therefore preserving the integrity of Mutya ng Pilipinas' judging system being the hallmark of many years in pageantry.
