BASKETBALL star James Yap said he is doing his best to bond with his son and namesake James Jr., aka Bimby, and to fulfill his responsibilities as a father to the six-year-old kid.

So medyo mahirap iyon. So kailangan double effort talaga. Ginagawa ko naman yung part ko as a father na mapalapit sa anak ko," Yap said in an interview Thursday at the PEP List 2013 awards night.

James added it is also hard for him to bond with Bimby because he's only allowed to see the kid once a week.

Earlier, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino urged her ex-husband to spend more time with Bimby and to create happy memories together.

No matter how much I love my sons, that's one thing, yung harutan na panglalaki. Well it's not in my capacity," she said in a recent "KrisTV" episode.

Meanwhile, the San Mig Coffee Mixers forward shared his happiness on seeing his son after almost five months.

Yap revealed that they just stayed in his condominium unit and ordered Bimby's favorite food. But the first meeting between the two was a bit awkward.

Ginawa ko talaga yung best ko na mapalapit yung loob sa akin and inuna ko muna si Josh," he added.

"Sinakay ko sa scooter si Josh para mainggit si Bimby and naging successful naman kasi sumakay din si Bimby at tatlo kaming nag scooter," he said.

The cager thanked his ex-wife for allowing her first born, Joshua, to come and see him. Yap said he loves Josh just like his own.

Right now, James said he's happy with how things work and hopeful that he will be allowed to spend more time with his son.

As to his relationship with Aquino, James said, "Okay naman kami na hindi nag-uusap and mas okay na yung ganun kasi iwas na lang sa gulo. Alam namin sa isa't isa na naka move-on na kaming dalawa and ang focus na lang namin is yung anak namin," he ended. (Sunnex)
