THE Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) denied allegations of "vote buying" at the recently concluded 30th Star Awards for Movies.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, entertainment columnist Jobert Sucaldito questioned the Best Actor trophy of comedian Vice Ganda for the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy."

Sucaldito said "Vice Ganda's winning was paid."

In a lengthy post in his social media account, the radio host/columnist said that two weeks ago, some members of the PMPC asked him if he had plans to "lobby" for "Boy Golden" lead actor Laguna Governor ER Ejercito.

According to Sucaldito, the unidentified PMPC members told him that "On The Job" actor Joel Torre is the rightful winner for the Best Actor trophy but the latter's camp had no means to "pay for the voting members."

As Ejercito's PR man, Sucaldito said that he made sure to get the votes of more than half of the 38 active voting members of PMPC.

"I thought of something... kung hindi rin lang mananalo si Joel Torre, who is the rightful winner, might as well fight na lang for my anak-anakan Joerge Estregan (Ejercito) for 'Boy Golden' dahil they said that he is next in line for Best Actor," he said.

"I commissioned 22 of them bago ako sumugal. Huwag na natin pangalanan but worse comes to worst ay willing ako to name names," he said.

Sucaldito added that days later, he was surprised to discover that one active member of the PMPC lobbied for Vice Ganda to win the acting award.

"Nagbayad siya ng pera sa mga kasamahan niya sa PMPC para manalo si Vice Ganda who is abroad," he said.

"Nanalo si Vice Ganda dahil kontrolado nila ang results. I am an outsider of PMPC kaya I have all the right to lobby. Pero ang nag lobby kay Vice Ganda for Best Actor ay VOTING MEMBER," he added.

Sucaldito said he spoke to some members and he received confirmation that someone indeed lobbied for the host/comedian to win.

He said he was not afraid to face anyone and to fight this battle since he has proofs to support his claims. He said that they are a victim of the so-called "dagdag-bawas gang" inside the PMPC.

PMPC's statement

On Tuesday evening, PMPC released a statement in relation to the latest controversy hounding the recently concluded Star Awards for Movies.

The group said that it stands by its decision to award Vice Ganda of the Best Actor trophy, as it denied Sucaldito's allegations.

"The voting members gave their utmost trust and confidence to the winners in their respective categories, thereby making the results final, uncontestable and sacred," the statement read.

PMPC added that it was saddened with the unfortunate turn of events after the awarding ceremonies.

"For the past three decades of Star Awards for Movies, the PMPC has weathered the hardest obstacles and has remained undaunted," it said.

"There will be forces that will try to destroy the credibility and reputation of the club, but the PMPC will remain committed to its objectives, and no amount of intimidation and coercion can shake its foundation," the statement ended. (Sunnex)
