SEASONED actress Eugene Domingo is nominated for the Best Actress trophy at the 8th Asian Film Awards.

Set on the 27th of March at the Dancing Water Theater in Macau, Eugene got the nod for her performance in Jun Robles Lana's "Barber's Tales" (Mga Kuwentong Barbero).

The comedienne will compete against Asian actresses Han Hyo-joo ("Cold Eyes") from South Korea, Paw Hee Ching ("Rigor Mortis") from Hong Kong, Yoko Maki ("The Ravine of Goodbye") from Japan and Zhang Zi Yi for "The Grandmaster" representing Mainland China.

Domingo's nomination came after she won the top acting trophy last year at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival for the same film.

"Barber's Tale," according to its official Facebook page, is a film set in a remote province in the Philippines at the onset of Martial law in the early 1970s.

The story revolves around the newly widowed Marilou, played by Eugene, who inherits their town's only barbershop from her husband.

The page reads: "Having no other means to support herself, she musters the courage to run the barbershop, a traditionally male trade. However, despite the skills she gained from years of observation and being an assistant to her husband, as a female barber she fails to attract any customers."

Other stars featured in the film are Gladys Reyes, Shamaine Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, Niccolo Manolo, Iza Calzado, Eddie Garcia, with the special participation of Superstar Nora Aunor. (Sunnex)
