Miss Universe pageant set for Sunday

PHILIPPINES' bet Ariella Arida is ready to take center stage and compete for the coveted Miss Universe crown.

Cable network Velvet (SkyCable channel 80) will air the live broadcast of the annual beauty pageant straight from Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia on Sunday, November 10 at 2 a.m.

A special telecast will follow at 9 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. on ABS-CBN.


Arida, a 24-year-old Laguna-born beauty, will try to bag the crown, which was first won by Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973.

This year's pageant is the 62nd edition of the prestigious beauty contest. The pageant will be hosted by "MSNBC Live" anchor Thomas Roberts and Melanie Brown.

The 86 entrants from around the world will be judged by Aerosmith front man and lead singer Steven Tyler, Nobu and Matsuhisa restaurants' Chef Nobu, gold medalist figure skater Tara Lipinski, television personality Carl Alt, supermodel Anne V., Farouk Shami, Italo Fontana and Russian pop star Philip Kirkorov.

Viewers will be treated to special performances by Steven Tyler, Grammy-nominated band Panic! at The Disco and international recording artist EMIN. (Sunnex)
