15 outstanding student leaders to be recognized

THE Iloilo City Government will recognize 15 outstanding and graduating high school student leaders in a ceremony on March 26 at SM City Iloilo.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the “Ang Batang Lider” recognition is the only official award given by the City Government to outstanding student leaders of Iloilo City who are graduating from high school in city-based colleges and universities, private schools and public schools.

The recognition started more than five years ago as Mabilog's pet project in education.

He asked the outstanding students to take good care of the city's name.

Mabilog said there are three important components the leaders should know to be successful: unity among the political leaders and the people and listening to suggestions and inputs; crucial planning before implementing any project; and strong political will.

These components, he added, will always result in progress and development.

The Ang Batang Lider title will be awarded to:

Colleges and Universities Category -- Charmine Pearl Galo of Central Philippine University, Dana Loise Abbe Ledonio of Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Ella Sheena Balibalos of Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, John Vincent Andig of Colegio de San Jose, and Phaul Rey Tolentino of West Visayas State University

Private School Category -- Danielle Therese de Guzman of Saint Joseph School, John Sebastian Barredo of Paref Westbridge, Johann Ruiz Jr. of Angelicum School Iloilo, Roiel Shadd Galigao of Sun Yat Sen High School, and Jessica Frances Buckly of Sta. Clarita International School

Public School Category -- Joshua Diestro of Fort San Pedro National High School, Sandro Silverio of Ramon Avancena National High School, Shaniah Grace Condag of Mandurriao National High School, Justin Adriel Zent Togonon of Philippine Science High School and Antonio Sibug of Iloilo City National High School
