THE Iloilo City Council has approved the creation of the Iloilo City Senior Citizens and People with Disability (PWD) Council to strengthen the cause of the marginal sector in the city.

Main proponent, Councilor Armand Parcon, brought the cause of the sector to the attention of the City Council during Tuesday's regular session, citing the need for a specific ordinance to champion the cause of senior citizens and PWDs and safeguard their needs and interests.

Parcon admitted there are several existing institutions and regulations for the senior citizens and PWDs but there is no special body to cohesively monitor and evaluate the programs.

The council will expectedly become a clearing house to monitor and evaluate the programs, he said, adding it will become the united voice of the marginalized sector for programs and projects implemented by the city and national governments. (LCP)
