THE Iloilo City Legal Office has suggested at least four options to help solve the water crisis, as bulk water supplier Flo Water Resources Inc. cut off its supply to the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) on Monday, August 11, for the second time in three days.

City Legal Officer Dan Dinopol said the City Council will have a say in the options that require full cooperation of all constituents, including filing a resolution to fast track the water distribution system.

He said since the membership of Iloilo City in the MIWD is through an ordinance of the City Council, the City Council may withdraw or repeal the ordinance, thus withdrawing the city membership in the MIWD.

Another possible option will be for the MIWD to give up its water distribution function to the city, thus paving the way for the City to conduct its own water distribution scheme separate from the water district and other franchised areas.

The last option would be drastic by filing a case against MIWD for dereliction of duty and failure to fulfill its mandate on water distribution at the office of the Ombudsman or with the Office of the President and Civil Service Commission, Dinopol added.

Dinopol said the options have to be studied before any drastic action be taken against the water district. (LCP)
