THE public transport jeepneys coming from the towns of Sta Barbara and Zarraga will be allowed to enter Iloilo City from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. starting Monday, July 21.

Councilor Plaridel Nava, chairman of the City Council’s committee on transportation, said the traffic scheme was requested by the Association of Provincial Jeepneys Association.

The jeepneys from Sta Barbara and Zarraga are allowed to enter the city and unload passengers until SM City, while the jeepneys from Tigbauan may unload passengers until GT Mall. Jeepneys coming from Alimodian may unload passengers until Jaro big market.

Nava said the jeepneys will be allowed to enter the city only on Monday mornings when students, employees, and workers flock to the city.

The traffic scheme will be effected on top of the 100 car passes distributed by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. to the jeepney associations in the province allowing vehicles to enter the city. Read the related story here.

After three weeks, Nava assured he and the drivers will discuss the proposed expansion of the traffic scheme on Fridays from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. in allowing students and employees to come home in their respective towns.
