ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he will take the lead in convincing the local business sector on the importance of real property tax (RPT) increases on land, buildings, and machineries as mandated by the Department of Finance.

Mabilog will attend for the first time a public hearing on the proposed RPT hike spearheaded by the City Council committee on ways and means on Friday, July 18, which will be attended by members of eight business organizations in the city.

Mabilog said he will listen to the sentiments of the business sector and is amenable to come up with a compromise agreement or staggered payment of RPT as a possible win-win solution to the impasse created by a position paper from the businessmen highly protesting the implementation of a mandatory new schedule of zonal valuation on real properties starting January 1, 2015.
