ILOILO – The real property tax collection of the province increased significantly following the implementation of tax amnesty, records from the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) showed.

From January to March, Local Revenue Collection Officer 1 Maria Gene Alison revealed that real property tax collection rose by P49,081,973.01 this year compared to the same period last year.

PTO collected a total of P162,916,789.46 real property tax in the first quarter of 2014 while P113,834,816.45 in 2013.

Earlier, the province is targeting to reap P338,690,727.48 in real property tax by the end of the year as a result of the amnesty.

The information drive on tax amnesty is also ongoing in 43 municipalities and one component city of Iloilo to encourage delinquent tax payers to pay their arrears.

“We are urging the public to pay their taxes as early as possible to avoid serpentine queue during rush hours. Paying early and on time is for their convenience,” Alison said.

The tax amnesty provided by Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 2013-349 will last only until December 31, 2014. (PIO)
