Tuesday, July 1, 2014
TWO hundred sixty-three fishermen at Barangay Talotoan, Concepcion, Iloilo received Monday their new motorized boats that they could use for their livelihood.
Talotoan village chief Leo Ferraris said all of the fishing boats in their area were damaged by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last November 2013.
The arrival of the new fishing boats, which were donated by the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation through One Meal Foundation of businesswoman and civic leader Teresa Chan, is part of Governor Arthur Defensor Sr.’s “Adopt a fisherman” project.
Chan said their group with the help of many other organizations have released 2,850 fishing boats for the coastal towns of northern Iloilo.
Chan said aside from helping the “Adopt a fisherman” project, One Meal also plans to help in the rehabilitation of classrooms and school facilities destroyed by the storm.
Ealier, Defensor said the province lost about 9,000 fishing boats mostly in northern Iloilo in the aftermath of Yolanda. (PR)
