ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is set to award the certificate of adjudication to qualified market vendors at the Iloilo terminal market who underwent a validation process by the middle of June this year.

City Administrator Norlito Bautista announced this, adding the validation of some 1,000 stall holders and table sharers at the terminal market is slated to terminate by first week of June.

The validation of some 1,000 market stalls at the central public market will also start by middle of June to determine the qualified vendors and stallholders. Transient vendors are reminded to register with the market in-charge.

Bautista, head of the market committee, said the process of validation conducted more than one month for stallholders came about after the committee declared all stalls vacant at the terminal market. The certificate of adjudication is the last step in getting a stall at the terminal market.

The market committee is giving priority to qualified occupants of the stalls and did not consider the original stallholders, since they have violated their contract in renting out or leasing their stalls to other persons, Bautista said.

New applicants for stalls, including the original owner if they so decide, must undergo a raffle for the stalls, he added.

However, the qualified stallholders will have to pay the one-time goodwill money as provided in a regulation ordinance in 2009, establishing the local economic enterprise office to supervise and manage the city’s seven public markets.

Bautista said that no goodwill money was ever paid by the stallholders to the city and the goodwill money ranges from P5,000, P10,000 to P15,000 depending on the location of the stalls.

Some stalls at the peripheral back of de Leon and Fuentes streets are also ready for adjudication by May 29. But the rest of stalls will be completely adjudicated to qualified vendors by middle of June. (Lydia C. Pendon)
