THE Department of Tourism (DOT) office in Western Visayas is set to launch on the third week of June this year a new tour package connecting three islands in the region as a major component of “Experience Western Visayas First” tourism program.

DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said the Cruise and Drive Tour will start the project by connecting the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros Occidental using the roll-on roll-off (RoRo) ships and tour buses, vans and coasters in a two nights and three days tour.

The tour package will involve the eight provinces of the region, as well as two city tourism offices, members of the media, Philippine Ports Authority, Marina, Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board, Land Transportation Office, National Economic Development Authority, tourism councils and RoRo companies in showing off the different tourism sites and potential of the region.

Catalbas said the plan will involve participation of tourism officers and stakeholders from Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Iloilo. The jump-off point will be in Lapuz, Iloilo City, with a RoRo vessel set to bring at least three big buses and other vehicles to Sebaste, Sibunag in Guimaras, and then to Pulupandan in Negros Occidental.

The tour will have two nights stay in Negros, and will go for a return trip from Bredco Bacolod City to Panay through the Dumangas Port in the province of Iloilo.
