TWO national teams will validate on Friday, May 23, the readiness of Iloilo City in the national 3rd Red Orchid Award for its campaign against smoking.

Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force chairman Councilor Joshua Alim said the teams from the Department of Health (DOH) will include validators who will look over all the city regulation ordinances, advisories and notices, and the cessation clinic operation.

Another team will conduct ocular inspections in the city to see the compliance of business establishments, transport sector and the barangays of ordinances and regulations in making the city a smoke-free area.

Alim said that Iloilo is the first highly urbanized city in the country to qualify in the quest for Red Orchid Hall of Fame after garnering the regional award.

The national validators have been to Antique, Capiz, Kalibo, Buruanga, Negros Occidental, Dumangas, Anilao, Sta. Barbara, New Lucena, Cabatuan, and Maasin, among other local government units to be validated for the award.
