THE Provincial Government of northern Iloilo will start in May 27 its tourism promotion and development initiatives, six months after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) wreck the province.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) had earlier named Iloilo as one of the 11 provinces in the Philippines to implement the program in partnership with the Local Government Support Program for Local Economic Development.

The launching will be held during the Leader's Forum on Growing Local Economies at Marco Polo, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Metro Manila.

The forum is set to gather department secretaries, local chief executives, private sector, donor agencies and development professionals who will share their practices in investment attraction, public-private partnership and economic recovery.

The forum will be attended by Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. and representatives from are Albay, Aklan, Antique, Cebu, Davao Del Norte, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Palawan, Siquijor, and Sorsogon.

In November 2013, Yolanda crippled the operation and ruined some major resorts in the fifth district, including Sandbar Beach Resort in the village of Bulubadiangan, Concepcion, which is famous for its beautiful long strength of sandbar.

The cottages in the area are wiped out and resort owners have to find ways to construct temporary cottages to keep the business going.

Northern Iloilo is also the place where you can explore the Gigantes and Sicogon Islands in Carles, Tambaliza Island in Concepcion, Marbuena Beach Resort and Terra Verde Farm and Forest Park in Ajuy. (PIO)
