ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will pursue his plan to hold a dialogue Thursday with more than 300 market vendors on the proposed central market revitalization and redevelopment project.

City Administrator Norlito Bautista said that only legitimate vendors who possess valid documents were invited to participate in the discussion.

Bautista said that aside from the presence of the mayor, members of the market committee are also present.

The dialogue will focus on the vendors’ allegation on the privatization project and the selling of the market to a private firm.

The lone bidder is SM Primeholdings and a negotiated contract is proposed for the construction of the market in two years time. However, Bautista said there is no awarding yet to any bidder for a joint venture and there is no privatization on the 1.4 hectare central public market.

The vendors have put up several streamers denouncing the proposed privatization and wanted the government to fund the redevelopment of the market. There were allegations that the vendors will be displaced by next month.

However, Bautista said there are several unscrupulous persons fanning the vendor’s unrest and misinformation.
