230 students work in City Hall

A TOTAL of 230 college students in Iloilo City started working Monday in the different offices of the City Hall and Barangay Halls as part of their summer jobs.

Ma. Elena Benitez, chief of the Public Employment Service Office (Peso), said the program aims to provide an opportunity to the students in knowing the work in the City Hall.

The students, who will work for 20 days during the summer season, will earn some amount to spend for the next school opening.    
The students will participate in the Special Program for Employment of Students (Spes) with a remuneration of P287 per day.


The Labor department assured to give 40 percent while the City Government assured to give 60 percent of the students’ daily allowance.
The students, who took summer job in the City Hall for three to four years, are also accommodated to work for 30 days with the same daily allowance.
Benitez said 21 students will be assigned at the Peso to work and encode on the skills registry system (SRS) recommended by the Labor department to know the manpower available in the 180 villages.
Meanwhile, the Peso chief said the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) will be holding a job fair at the Provincial Capitol grounds in May 1, Labor Day.

The city will be holding a “Trabaho sa Barangay” job fair at Barangay Concepcion, Iloilo City in May 5.
