Drilon orders contractor to finish housing units by Friday

SENATE President Franklin Drilon has ordered the contractor to finish construction of 1,000 housing units at the Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase in Barangay Lanit, Jaro in Iloilo City by Friday, April 4.

The Phase I of the housing project for informal settlers lies at the 5.6-hectare lot of the City Government in Barangay Lanit, Jaro.

The land development and housing construction of 1,000 houses cost some P169.3 million, and the he contract period is 490 days starting August 16, 2012. The revised completion date is on March 31, 2014.


GB Legaspi Construction failed to reach the March 31 deadline. Drilon admitted he was pissed off over the construction delay.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog called on chief executive officer Enrico Garcia of GB Legaspi to assure the completion of the remaining housing units.

The housing project is intended for the 237 informal settler families in barangays along the Dungon Creek, 139 families affected by road widening in four barangays, and 206 families affected by the road widening project at the diversion road.

Mabilog said the transfer of families will take effect immediately until April 15, 2014 when the contractor should finished attaching all the doors, windows, wash basins and toilet bowls in all housing units.

Mabilog said President Benigno Aquino III will be invited to grace the inauguration of the housing project in June.
