AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has pledged to finish the rehabilitation and expansion of the road network in Iloilo before the hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) in October 2015.
In his report to the Iloilo business summit held in Makati on Wednesday, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the National Government has allocated P4.1 billion for the road network.
The budget is part of the P31.48-billion worth of investment pledges coming from seven corporations in the Philippines. Read more here.
The fund will be spent for the national roads, flood control, and convergence program, especially with the Department of Tourism (DOT) identified tourism roads to reach the tourists spots and attractions in the region, Singson said.
Singson said that Western Visayas, especially Iloilo and Calabarzon, shared a capital outlay of P12.6 billion to fund the national infrastructures.
The National Capital Region (NCR) remains the biggest beneficiary of infrastructure funds.
The Iloilo road network is expected to be completed within 2014 including the P1.7-billion worth of circumferential road and the expanded diversion road up to the Iloilo airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
