Mabilog waits for final decision on Apec hosting

THE preparation is ongoing for the Asia Pacific Economic Council (Apec) Ministerial Meetings in Iloilo City but the final decision on the hosting will be handed down by March 2014.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the decision of the national organizing committee on whether Iloilo City will be hosting the Apec meetings will be in by next month after the final evaluation of all preparations in different areas of the country.

There will be some 1,600 delegates and 42 ministers coming from 21 countries in Asia and the Pacific. In the initial hosting schedule, Iloilo City was given the slot to host the Food Security conference.


Mabilog is also considering the possibility that Iloilo City may host two or more ministerial meetings of the Apec.

Mabilog said a listing of alternate venues, should the Iloilo Convention Center is not completed by 2015, and hotels for the delegates was compiled. Among those are the Royal Garden for the conferences, Sarabia Manor Hotel, Hotel del Rio, Days Hotel, Diversion 21 Hotel, among others.
