Iloilo posts more OFWs in Western Visayas

THE province of Iloilo posted the biggest number of overseas workers who were registered as members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as of September 2013.

The province posted the highest number at 60,901 for Western Visayas which has a total of 187,971 overseas workers registered in Owwa.

Iloilo was followed by Negros Occidental with 53,108, including Bacolod City; Capiz with 17,043, including Roxas City; Antique with 12,529, including capital town San Jose; Aklan with 10,332, including capital town Kalibo; Guimaras with 5,168, including capital town Jordan.


In the province of Iloilo, the municipalities with many OFWs are Oton with 3,789; Pototan, 3,650; Cabatuan, 3,023; Tigbauan, 2,712; Dumangas, 2,629; Passi City, 2,821; Sta Barbara, 2,561; Miagao, 2,314; Lambunao, 2,031; Pavia, 2,020; Barotac Nuevo, 1,957; Leon, 1,693; and Calinog, 1,604.

OWWA said that Iloilo has a total of 43 municipalities and one component city and all towns have OFWs working in foreign countries.  

Iloilo City also registered the bulk of OFWs with 28,890 land and sea-based male and female workers to different countries in Saudi Arabia, Hongkong, Singapore, Japan, China, Korea, America, Canada, Australia and countries in Europe.
