THE Iloilo City Government is eyeing to build a hotel instead of a park that was planned earlier at the Parola terminal project.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog earlier said the Parola ferry terminal will have a passenger terminal building, a shopping complex, and a park. Read more here.

The city mayor said that instead of a park, a private investor offered to build a hotel at the park site for a joint venture with the city under a public-private partnership (PPP).

Mabilog said the hotel project, which will be located inside the Parola ferry terminal, will have a different bidder.

Double Dragon Properties Corp., which won as the bidder for the P135-million worth Parola ferry terminal, will construct the terminal building. Read here.

Mabilog, however, said he is still consulting with National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) and the City Council about the hotel project.

The Parola lot was awarded through a Presidential Proclamation of President Benigno Aquino III to the City Government of Iloilo, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Of the total 1.2 hectares, some 1,300 square meters was given to the City Government, while the rest of the lot was given to the DENR and PCG.
