THE Iloilo City Government is eyeing for the inclusion of the heritage mansions as part of the city’s tourism package tour.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the idea came from the people who texted him on the “mystery of mansions” in several districts of the city, particularly in Jaro, where early affluent Ilonggos built their mansions as their homes.

Some mansions were built during the Spanish times and others were constructed during the 21st century. The mansions became historic symbols of the family name, lifestyle, place in society, and wealth until today.

Mabilog said he has ordered for the list of the mansions, names of the owners, among others, adding that he will also ask the owners or heirs to allow visitors of the City Government to see the resplendent and well-maintained mansions.

Initial listing showed that there are heritage mansions in the city proper such as the Safiro Ledesma mansion and Marquez Lim mansion, among others.

The list also revealed that there are the colonial mansion and boat house mansion of the Lopez families as well as the Stevan Javellana mansion in La Paz district.

The Iloilo cultural heritage foundation and the City Government are also working to save and preserve the heritage buildings along the central business district.

The heritage tour starts at the historic Plaza Libertad to the new city hall building and ends at the central business district, where heritage buildings were restored.
