GOVERNOR Arthur Defensor Sr. challenged the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) command in Iloilo to institutionalize a culture of excellence among its rank-and-file in pursuit of gaining people’s trust and faith.

“It is crucial that before we succeed as a nation, our people must believe in our soldiers and policemen. If our people do not have confidence in (you), we can never see a meaningful peace and order,” he stressed.

Defensor spoke during the 23rd PNP Foundation Anniversary and Quarterly Pagdayaw Awards of Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) held at Camp Francisco U. Sumagaysay Sr., Sta. Barbara, Iloilo on Tuesday.

The governor recalled that after his victory last 2010 local elections, his administration embarked on “Reform and Change,” a mantra that aims to minimize, if not totally eradicate, the crooked in the province.

“We embarked on (this) program because I believe that it was the only way we could restore our people’s faith in (Provincial Government),” he said.

Defensor also emphasized the need to have “national discipline” through reform and change in all levels of management in attaining real progress for the country.

He also recognized the achievements of IPPO under Senior Superintendent Cornelio Salinas in curbing all types of criminality, especially in apprehension of most wanted personalities involved in illegal drugs and other felonies.

“May these awards inspire you since criticism does much but encouragement does more,” he said.
