FIRE investigators have yet to confirm the exact cause of a three-hour fire that razed down a heritage commercial building along Iznart Street last Friday evening, January 24.

Tayengco Building, hosted the burned stores with more than P30 million initial estimated damages at the heart of the city’s Chinatown.

The fire started around 7 p.m. and was put under control by 10 p.m.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the incident, however, did not mar the celebration of Dinagyang Festival during the weekend as the accompanying Kasadyahan Mardi Gras Festival on Saturday, January 25, continues the parade in front of the burned building.

Smoke from the burned debris did not deter the street dance of the regional Kasadyahan participants who continued their performance in four areas around the city proper.

Mabilog said the resiliency of the people brings back the burned barangays to life and today, Tanza Esperanza and Malipayon are back on its feet.

The fire was suspected to originate in Ledi Supermart which burned Yoka Store, Helen Marketing, AH Trading, LGG Hardware and Cycle Parts, EC Marketing, Yankee General Merchant, PCSO lotto outlet, JB Lucky Merchandising, Mercury money changer and Eng Hong Commercial.
