Iloilo Songbirds tilt set

A TOTAL of eight kids studying in the city and province of Iloilo will show off their singing talents as grand finalists in the Iloilo Songbirds Competition for Kids Year 13 slated on Thursday, January 23 at SM City activity center.

The competition, which is part of the activities of Dinagyang Festival, aims to discover and give recognition to children and hone their talents as world-class performers in the near future.

Competition executive director Regine Algecira said the annual search is an open pop category singing contest for kids with ages 7-12 years old studying in private and public schools in the city and province of Iloilo.


The grand finalists and their singing piece are Caryle Ann Jarantilla, 9 years old of Baluarte Elem School with the song “Lipad na Pangarap”; Elijah Star Ongga, 10 years old of Assumption Elem of Bo. Obrero with the song “Listen”, Angel Faith Villaruel, 12 of Colegio de San Jose with the song “Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin,” Kyla Maxine Jalandoni, 12 years old of Phil. American Progress School with the song “Battle Field,” Jayne Bhie Balinas, 7, of San Antonio Elem School in Oton, Iloilo with the song “Hulog ng Langit,” Kate Julianne Larroder, 9, of SPED-ISEC with the song “In This Song,” Galeno Opong, 7, of La Paz Elem School with the song “Nothing,” and Marc Dave Espartero,10, of Filipino American School Town with the song “To Love You More.”

The grand finalists were selected from 13 qualifiers for the pre-finals. The other pre-qualifiers are Lexia Victoria Donguila, 11, of St. Joseph School with the song “If I Ain’t Got You,” Kurt Daeron Altas, 10, of Assumption Bo. Obrero with the song “Rolling in a Deep,” Rhie Anne Deraco, 10, of Iloilo Central elem School with the song “Wrecking Ball,” Spencer Sean Aldea, 8, of Mandurriao Elem School with the song “Isang Lahi,” and Paolo Miguel Flores, 8, of St. Joseph School with the song “Open Arms.”

The tilt is a project of Care Giver Learning Center way back in 2001 and presented by Good Day Western Visayas program aired over Sky Cable Channel 13 and Channel 61 aired at Cable Star Channel 15. The program aims to uplift, develop and enhance young Ilonggo talents in the field of music.

Criteria for judging covers Voice quality and musicianship 30 percent, Diction, clarity of vowels and consonants 25 percent, Piece to singer’s range 30 percent and star quality 15 percent.
