A TOTAL of 16 traffic light junctions will be completed within this year in different areas of Iloilo City to help solve the pedestrian and traffic problems in the metropolis.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the traffic lights project was started in the last quarter of 2013 with four installations along Ledesma Mabini street, along Infante and General Luna, and at the city proper with the help of a private corporation.

Another four traffic lights will be installed along Jalandoni Delgado, in front of the University of San Agustin, corner Delgado Valeria street and at Huervana, La Paz district this first quarter of the year.

The amount for the traffic lights installation will come from the P15-million fund diverted earlier from the fountain project at Plaza Libertad.

Mabilog said the city is committed to install the 16 traffic light project; however, the Department of Public Works and Highways will install the traffic lights along the widened diversion road going to the international airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo. (Lydia C. Pendon)
