More OFWs take Singapore-Iloilo route

ARRIVALS at the Iloilo international airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo showed more international arrivals from Singapore than from Hong Kong, mostly because of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) preference of Singapore as an accessible and easy gateway for direct flight to Iloilo.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported that as of May 31, arrivals of travelers direct from Singapore totaled 10,125 as compared to 6,972 arrivals from Hong Kong.

Of the total 17,097 arrivals, 14,887 are Filipinos and majority are overseas contract workers from the Middle East, Korea, China and Japan.


For the same period, there were 87 direct flights from Singapore and 61 direct flights from Hong Kong. The Filipinos formed the bulk of arrivals from Singapore at 8,918, followed by 582 Koreans, 109 Americans, 102 Australians, 60 Koreans, 57 Malaysians, 41 British, 32 Canadians, 23 Kasakhistans, and 23 Germans.

The rest are French, Russian, Indian, Dutch, Filipino-American, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Spanish, Estonian, Indonesian, Japanese, New Zealander, Bangladeshi, Turkish, Swiss and Thai.

From Hong Kong, the arrivals are 5,969 Filipinos, 132 Americans, 117 Russians, 117 Chinese HK, 92 British, 88 Koreans, 51 French, 47 Germans, 39 Canadians and 22 Australians. The rest are Chinese mainlander, Swedish, Spanish, Austrian, Filipino-American, Norwegian, Japanese, Estonian, Swiss, South African, Belgian and Italian.
