4 injured in New Year’s eve

A 54-YEAR-OLD farmer from the Poblacion village of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental suffered big cuts in his right hand following the explosion of an improvised cannon “boga” on New Year’s eve.

The victim Alfredo Blazo was rushed to Bayawan District Hospital and transferred to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital for surgical operation.

Blazo said he fired for the first time his improvised cannon also known as “boga” when it exploded in his right hand. An improvised cannon is made of steel pipe that he personally made.


Police provincial director Alet Viturcio said Blazo is the fourth victim of firecrackers-related incident during the New Year’s eve celebration.

Of the four victims, two are both from Tanjay City and the other one is from Dumaguete City.

Virtucio said record shows that there were five firecrackers related victims in 2013.
